What I'm Thinking.

Let me see... To tell the truth I'm not thinking about much right know but I'll think of something. Okay, I'll tell you about my week so far. During the weekend I was out in Ocala National Forest back packing. I hiked a total of 15 miles with a 50 to 60 pound pack on my back. For future reference I think I need to pack lighter.

When I got home I was exhausted and thankfully my brother got sick, not that it is a good think to be sick. If he was not though I would have had to go to school on Monday.

Not to mention that i had a project to do in my politics and government class that was due Tuesday night. So I ended up working all day on that. Tuesday I had to go to school even though my brother was still sick.

Though out the day I was wondering how my students did on their test. I hope they did very well so they don't have to have intensive classes like I had in 10th grade because I failed the reading FCAT in 9th grade. I was not to happy. That is what I am now thinking about.

Also that I"M SO FREAKING HUNGRY RIGHT NOW!!!

Mentoring Experiences

So far the kids that I have helped have not been to happy about it but they did do the work with my help. Not sure if they will do the other work they have to do but it is a start.

I hope that the more I work with them the more they will start to help themselves and do the work. That is what I am shooting to achieve for these kids.

Helping Freshmen In Many Ways

I like to help out the freshmen no matter what they do or say. Many kids don't know why they should be here and think that high school is not important at all. Unfortunately many just don't care about anything. That is what we are here for to get them to learn how important high school is for their future.

Every now and then you get the ones that don't like to listen or don't like help. They are the ones that make our job harder because they fight you all the way and don't help you with being nice. Thankfully there are some that actually listen to you and benefit from your help. When you get those freshmen you feel very good because you know that you have just changed some one's life.

The most important advice you can give to a student that does not think high school is important, is to tell them the truth about the real world. Ask them what will the do if they decided t o drop out of school or tell them what jobs might be there for them when they drop out. Every little thing can help when it comes to helping the freshmen.
